25th Avenue Grade Separation Project
Night/Weekend Work
At night on Monday, August 19 to Friday, August 23, installation of the retaining wall panels may occur between the pedestrian underpass to 28th Avenue. Construction Work Monday, August 19 to Friday, August 23: PG&E Pipeline Work PG&E began the final stage of work on its gas line relocation on July 15, which includes the closure of Pacific Blvd. and intermittent lane closures on S. Delaware (between 25th and 28th Avenues) for up to seven weeks (more information here). PG&E is anticipated to re-run gas through the line at the end of August which will likely result in the smell of gas in the air for one or two days. This work is expected between Friday, August 16 and Tuesday, August 20. PG&E will notice the community with the exact date.
On Saturday, August 17 to Friday, August 23, 2019, there will be no access to the Caltrain temporary parking lot from 31st Avenue. Vehicles can access the lot from 28th Avenue at S. Delaware. Please note some spaces in the temporary parking lot located on the eastside of the Hillsdale Station will be unavailable due to the construction work.
We apologize for any inconvenience while this important safety improvement project is being constructed.
Background
Caltrain, in cooperation with the City of San Mateo, will raise the tracks and slightly lower the road (grade separate) at E. 25th Avenue in San Mateo. This will improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians, and it will reduce local traffic congestion in San Mateo. In addition, the project will create neweast-west street connections at 28th and 31st Avenues; and as part of the project improvements, Caltrain will build a new elevated Hillsdale Station with updated amenities at E. 28th Avenue.

Caltrain Electrification
Caltrain Electrification
Caltrain Electrification is a key component of the Caltrain Modernization program which will electrify the Caltrain Corridor from San Francisco's 4th and King Caltrain Station to approximately the Tamien Caltrain Station. The primary purpose of Caltrain Electrification is to improve Caltrain system performance, reduce long-term environmental impact by reducing noise, improving regional air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. An electrified Caltrain system would better address Peninsula commuters' vision of increased service and improved travel times in an environmentally friendly and reliable way. This also is expected to help accommodate increase system ridership through improved system operations. For information on upcoming community construction update meetings, please visit the Caltrain Electrification Project events page at http://CalMod.org/Events. San Mateo: Set Out Track Area Crews may even out soil distributed in this location, install a drainage ditch to prevent any excess runoff, and hydroseed. No set-out track installation work will occur, as a construction contract has not been issued. A community meeting on this future project was held on June 11, 2019. For more information visit www.Caltrain.com/HP_Set-OutTrack. San Carlos The San Carlos Transit Village project is continuing work on new pedestrian pathways surrounding the San Carlos Caltrain Depot Plaza as the final phases of site improvements are completed. Crews will be temporarily redirecting plaza access (between the station and El Camino Real). The area below the tracks will continue to be kept clear to allow travel to opposite sides of the tracks. Please allow yourself extra time accessing and leaving the station. Dumbarton Rail Corridor The San Mateo County Transit District has entered into a partnership with Cross Bay Transit Partners to explore improving transportation along the Dumbarton Rail Corridor. You may notice crews along the corridor assessing the condition of the route. The information gathered will help inform the existing conditions analysis. Mountain View to Santa Clara Saturday, August 17, to Friday, August 23 , crews will resurface rail between the Mountain View and Santa Clara stations. Caltrain uses several different on-track, self-propelled machines to resurface rail, and neighbors may experience maintenance noise during this time. Crews will work as quietly as possible. PG&E Crews will be removing trees along the right of way in Mountain View near Rengstorff Park. Santa Clara Soil Relocation Starting as early as Thursday, June 20, crews will distribute soil inside the Caltrain right-of-way near Mead Avenue and Bowers Avenue to raise the level of the ground to be the same level as the tracks to reduce future flooding. Work hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Crews will take steps to minimize impacts from the movement of soil, which will be brought to the site by train.
